Fire displaces family of four

Fire District 1 responded to a house fire this morning in the 21400 block of 17th Pl. W., after a neighbor called 911.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire.

Crews arrived to see flames coming from the front window. Firefighters had the blaze under control within 15 minutes.

Damage is estimated at $150,000, but luckily the couple and two children who lived at the house do have insurance.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal's office determined the fire was accidental, but the cause is still under investigation.

Getting up to speed with Lynnwood's school zone enforcement cams

You may recall back in August we told you about new speed enforcement cameras in two Lynnwood school zones.

Its been three months and plenty of questions to answer...so, courtesy of the city of Lynnwood, here's a bit of Q&A

Q: How much are the speed camera enforcement fines?

A: 6 to 15 MPH over the speed limit - $124 fine; and 16 MPH or more over the speed limit - $250 fine. These fines are much less than if police give you an infraction for speeding in a school zone.

Q: What is the speed limit in a school zone?

A: 20 MPH in a school zone.

Q: How do I know when I need to go 20 MPH in these two school zones?

A: Whenever the lights are flashing. The lights flash from 7 am to 4:30 pm on school days.

A case for early Santa photos

Santa Claus and his crew arrived at Alderwood Mall over the weekend.

If you think it's too early (and who doesn't!) - here are a few reasons why it might pay to get those photos done now:

Long lines. At the Mall. During Christmastime.

The free elf ears haven't run out yet.

You'll have time (and patience) for a re-do if need be.

Long lines. At the Mall. During Christmastime.

Extra time to copy/send out photos to relatives.

An early excuse to pick-up an eggnog latte (if we're getting into the spirit anyways...)

Long lines. At the Mall. During Christmastime.

I rest my case!

Now go get the kiddos picture ready, print out the online coupon - and get those suckers done early for once.

Lunch on Jamba

Jamba Juice will be serving up its new California Flatbreads on the house Tuesday - starting at 2 p.m.

The MediterranYum flatbread is pictured above via Flickr user theimpulsivebuy. Tomo Artichoko, Smokehouse Chicken and Four Cheesy round out your flavor options.

MLT rejects plans for marijuana shop

Two men are threatening to sue Mountlake Terrace after the city rejected their request to open a medical marijuana dispensary.

Todd Madison and Aaron Panagos applied for a business license in September to open the for-profit Botanical Urban Dispensary Service.

They say they've been using medically authorized marijuana to manage pain for years and have run their business out of their homes since the beginning of the year.

The city maintains that Washington's medical marijuana law doesn't allow storefront dispensaries.

The law says patients can grow their own or designate someone to grow it for them, but such providers can only supply to one patient at any one time - not the many customers who would be served by a dispensary.

Hold on tight: Wind advisory, high wind watch across area

Get ready, as the next couple of days are supposed to be wet and wild across the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for all of Snohomish County west of the Cascades for tonight and Monday.  Sustained winds are expected to be in the 25-35 MPH range, with gusts up to 50 MPH.

But Monday night and Tuesday is when the really big storm comes in, and that's why the NWS has put up a High Wind Watch for the area.  They are expecting sustained winds near 40 MPH with gusts near 60 MPH.

The big winds mean that trees could come down, power could go out and some structures can be damaged.

So...be ready for some big winds over the next couple of days.  It's going to be wild.
