State revokes license at adult family home

Submitted by Heather Reese on Tuesday, December 29th, 03:51pm

The Department of Social and Health Services has suspended and revoked the license of Lakeside AFH, located at 16011 Eastshore Drive.

Lakeside AFH is a privately operated adult family home.

The state found numerous violations:

  • The provider failed to ensure there was a safe medication management system in place and that residents received medications as required. This failure resulted in two residents taking an overdose of narcotics.
  • The adult family home did not ensure there was a preliminary service plan for two residents, placing them at risk of not having their care needs met.
  • The provider did not ensure there was a safe medication management system in place and that residents received medications as required. One resident was hospitalized after receiving another resident's narcotic medication.
  • The home did not ensure medication set-up occurred just before residents took medications and did not ensure all medications were stored in a locked storage in the original labeled container.  This failure placed all residents at risk for accidental poisoning.

Current residents have been moved elsewhere.

The provider has the right to request an administrative hearing within 28 days.

If you forget to put your tree on the curb...there are other options!

Submitted by Marina Rockinger on Thursday, December 24th, 07:04pm

Maybe Jan. 2 or 3rd is too soon for you? No worries...you have other options.

Here are a few tips courtesy of Snohomish County:

*If you have curbside yard debris collection service from your garbage collector, check with the operator for instructions on when, where and how to leave your tree for pick up.

*Take your tree to a local compost facility (prices and hours vary). For more information about compost facilities in your area, go to the Washington State Department of Ecology’s Web site at https://fortress.wa.gov/ecy/recycle/

*Chip your own tree and use it for compost or mulch in your yard.

*Take your tree to one of Snohomish County’s Recycling and Transfer Stations.

Last, last minute shopping? Alderwood open until 6 PM

Submitted by Ray Marcham on Thursday, December 24th, 01:41pm

Will you have to do some serious, last minute, fight the crowds, hope-you-don't-get-stuck-in-traffic Christmas shopping?

You've still got time.  Alderwood Mall will be open until 6 p.m. today so you can get that very last minute shopping done.

After that...well, never mind.

Emergency Shelter open through Thursday

Submitted by Heather Reese on Tuesday, December 22nd, 02:48pm

The South Snohomish County Emergency Shelter Network will be open Tuesday through Thursday due to anticipated freezing temperatures.

Those in need of a warm place to sleep and a meal should meet at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church at 6915 196th St SW in Lynnwood at 7 p.m. each day.

Now - just because it will be cold enough doesn't mean a white Christmas is in the forecast. The KOMO weather team says it will be way too dry for that.

Boy Scouts to collect Christmas trees

Submitted by Heather Reese on Tuesday, December 22nd, 12:26pm

The Boy Scouts are once again collecting and recycling Christmas trees.

Troop 304 will come to homes within Lynnwood city limits. Just put your tree out on the curb by 8 a.m. on January 2nd or 3rd.

Troop 65 will handle neighborhoods within the boundaries of 44th Ave. W on the west, Maple Rd. on the south, 164th St. SW on the north, and stretching east past 36th Ave. W to state route 525, along with areas between and including Manor Way and Ash Way, north to 148th St. SW.

If you fall in the Troop 65 boundaries, you have to get your tree out to the curb on January 2nd by 8 a.m.

There will also be two drop-off locations, open on the 2nd and the 3rd between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.:

  • One block north of 196th St. SW along 56th Ave. W.
  • QFC parking lot, 196th St. SW and 76th Ave. W.

You have to remove all decorations from the tree prior to recycling. Flocked trees have to be put in the garbage.

To make a donation to the boy scouts, make a check out to the troop, put it in an envelope and attach to your tree.
