Harlan's grieving friends: 'It will never be the same'

Submitted by Shomari Stone on Sunday, January 31st, 12:16pm

Heartbroken friends and family of homicide victim Sherry Harlan gathered Saturday night for a candlelight vigil to remember her - just hours after it was revealed that her body was dismembered after she was killed.

"She had a wonderful, wonderful personality that brought everybody here tonight," her brother, Jason Korke, said at the vigil.

Her mother, Cheryl Thomas, was at the vigil as well, crying in her son's arms as she mourned the tragic loss of her beloved daughter.

Prosecutors allege Harlan was killed sometime between Jan. 2 and 3 by her ex-boyfriend, Eric Christensen, 40, of Gold Bar, after he found a text message from another man on her cellphone.

According to court papers, Christensen told police that Harlan had broken a "Wiccan blood oath" she had made to break off a relationship with the other man.

After the killing, prosecutors say, Christensen dismembered her body, then asked a friend to drive him around the Gold Bar area to help dispose of the woman's remains.

Candlelight vigil planned for presumed homicide victim

Submitted by Heather Reese on Friday, January 29th, 03:16pm

Family and friends of Sherry Harlan will hold a candlelight vigil on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Alderwood Mall JC Penney parking lot.

Detectives believe Harlan was a victim of homicide.

Harlan was reported missing on January 5th after she didn't show up to her job at JC Penney.

Soon after, The Snohomish County Sheriff's office found Harlan's burned-out car near a gravel pit outside of Gold Bar. Investigators found human remains inside the car.

Authorities say they found evidence of foul play inside Harlan's Everett apartment. Her ex-boyfriend Eric Christensen was later arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

New bridge and trail going in at 44th Ave. W.

Submitted by Heather Reese on Tuesday, January 26th, 04:45pm

Crews have started building a pedestrian bridge over 44th Avenue West and the I-5 South on-ramp.

The $3.9 million project will compete the "missing link" in Lynnwood's portion of the Interurban Trail.

"Today, people on foot or bike must travel along busy city streets to get from the trail to the Lynnwood Transit Center," said Brian Delp, Lynnwood Resident Construction Engineer, in a press release. "The new bridge and trail will separate vehicle and pedestrian traffic and provide a safer, easier pedestrian route to the transit center."

The bridge will connect with the existing trail near the Transit Center on 46th Avenue West.

The trail will remain open during construction. Crews expect to finish the project this summer.

Deputies capture men suspected in takeover-style robberies

Submitted by Heather Reese on Tuesday, January 19th, 10:54am

King County sheriff's deputies have arrested two men suspected in a string of takeover-style robberies, including one at the Bank of America on SW 196th St. in Lynnwood (photo from security camera shown above).

Sheriff spokesman John Urquhart said the 46-year-old Seattle man and 34-year-old Edmonds man are suspected of hitting three casinos, a bank and check cashing businesses.

In all of the robberies the men ordered everyone inside to the floor, displayed guns and, in two of the robberies, fired shots into the air.

"One guy had a gun in each hand -- a pistol in one hand and a shotgun in the other," Urquhart said "We don't see that very often. It just shows how desperate and how dangerous these two guys were."

The Seattle man was arrested Friday morning after he was spotted sitting in a car near a casino in Shoreline.

Church to cops: 'We have your back'

Submitted by Ray Lane on Monday, January 18th, 12:27pm

A Mill Creek church dedicated its Sunday service to those who serve. It was a chance to honor the fallen officers - and salute those who are still on the streets.

The Rev. Dan Kellogg of Gold Creek Community Church says he got the idea after he learned that the morale of officers in his own congregation was low.

The killing of five police officers and a sheriff's deputy in a span of less than two months had taken its toll - so many funerals, so much heartbreak.

"There's this atmosphere where there's a target painted on officers' backs," Rev. Kellogg said. "And it just seems like we should not have that in our community.
